Creating in the classroom.
Kindergarten students focus on learning the basics of art materials and processes. Students learn how to use art supplies correctly and respectfully and how art plays a role in our classroom and community. We discuss preparing supplies, using them, and cleaning them. Students learn art process like oil pastel resist painting, mystery drawing, tissue paper painting, gluing paper, cutting paper and shapes, and much more.
First grade students are introduced to famous artists and basic elements and principals of art. We learn about artist that use a lot of colors and shapes like Kandinsky and Mondrian. We are also introduced to two new techniques, Origami and Weaving. Second grade and on expand upon new artist, techniques and tools. Students use rulers for 1-Point Perspective, focus on symmetry, experiment with different types of scissors Third grade is introduced to yarn weaving, drawing three dimensional shapes, and Illustrations. Fourth grade references many famous pieces of artwork and artists. We look at Peter Max's 'Statue of Liberty' paintings, 'The Scream' by Edvard Munch, Navajo weaving's, and James Rizzi's portrait styles. Fifth Grade gets technical and mathematical with Mandala's and Tessellations. Students also develop more complex and detailed one point perspective drawings. |
